Vacation for Two!

Our summer had started out great! My daughter went to visit her dad in Birmingham and my son went with his grandparents to visit family in San Francisco! What a perfect time for my husband and I to take off on a little vacation for two! We decided to give the Blue Ridge mountains a try in North Georgia. What a beautiful part of the country. Very slow pace but that's just what we needed! First we drove through Chattanooga and visited Ruby Falls & Rock City. It was amazing! We then drove to our cabin in Cherry Log which is a little community that sits right between Ellijay, GA & Blue Ridge, GA. We rented a cabin through Sliding Rock Cabins called Cascading Waters and the name fit perfectly. It was a beautiful little cabin that sat right on the Ellijay River. As soon as you stepped out of the car you heard the rushing river below. It was so relaxing. We had a fun filled few days packed with adventure and romance!

We went tubing down the Cartecay River with the local outfitter, Cartecay River Experience. What an experience it was! Aside from what I can only describe as doing cartwheels down blackberry falls at the end it was a lot of fun! So much so that we bought inter tubes and played in the river behind out cabin too! We went to dinner in downtown Blue Ridge at Christy Lee's Bistro and it was so good. I highly recommend eating there. We grilled out on the deck and made smores in the fire pit down by the river. We visited a near by Helen, GA. Helen is a re-creation of an alpine village complete with cobblestone alleys and old-world towers. There was shopping, restaurants, mountains and beautiful scenery.  If we ever go back to this part of the country we will most likely stay near Helen.

We got up early on Thursday morning and drove about 45 minutes across the Tennessee/Georgia state line to go white water rafting on the Ocoee River. We chose Wildwater, Ltd as our outfitter. They were very professional and made sure you knew what you were doing. The middle section of the river has class III-IV rapids. What a rush! I have been before when I was in high school but it was my husbands first time. He loved it!  It wiped us out though and when we got back to the cabin we crashed for about 2 hours.

I can say that this vacation was successful. We hated to leave and even contemplated staying a day or two more but decided we better get home to our fur babies and reality. I'm ready to go back! When the mountains are calling you just have to go!!
